One great way to save the life of your di or RO filters is to harvest rain water. Rain water has a very low tds. A simple setup that cost you very little time and money. The tanks can be bought or even given away at most chemical supply houses. You can also get very decorative ones from stores that blend in with you home. One good rain or snow can give you a weeks worth of pure water for cleaning windows with a backback. Here is my setup.
